An ideal tour for those who want to get to
know Iceland, its landscape, beauty, culture
and history, but who are on a limited
timescale. This tour not only takes you to
some of Iceland's world famous attractions,
such as Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir, it
also includes many often overlooked places,
like Borgarfjordur with its hot springs,
waterfalls and historical sites; the
Snaefellsnes peninsula with its magnificent
glacier, small villages and the holy mountain
Helgafell and even the numerous islands of
Breiðafjörður where, according to season, you
may be able to see various species of birds
including shags, puffins and many others. Day 1: Reykjavik-Gullfoss-Geysir-Þingvellir-Reykholt We begin our tour with a short city tour of Reykjavik. Then via Hveragerði to Gullfoss which is known as the Queen of Iceland’s waterfalls. We continue to the nearby famous hot spring area of Geysir. Our next stop today is at the old Parliament site at Þingvellir (Parliament fields) founded the year 930AD. From there we head north, driving through the mountain pass to Hvalfjörður (Whale Fjord) where we stay for next two nights. Day 2: Snæfellsnes peninsula Today will be spent driving around the Snæfellsnes peninsula (the peninsula of the snowy mountain) with the glacier Snæfellsjökull, where according to Jules Verne´s book, the entrance for the Journey to the Centre of the Earth can be found. In the afternoon, we will go to Stykkishólmur where we embark on a boat 2 ½ hour boat trip around the islands of Breiðafjörður (summer only) Day 3: Borgarfjörður-Reykjavík We begin with visiting Deildatunguhver, one of the world’s most powerful hot springs giving 198 litres per second, over a distance of 30 km to 60 km to heat up villages and farms on the way! The we continue and visit Hraunfossar (lava waterfalls) where crystal clear water seemingly drops out of a 1000 years old lava field. Later, it is back to Reykjavik in time for the afternoon flights to Europe and North America. |
