December 30: Free Day/Optional Tours Availability of optional tours will be reserved and paid locally, tour information provide by the guide. December 31: Gullfoss & Geysir/Perlan Gala Buffet Dinner & Bonfire Tour We drive over the highland plateau of Hellisheiđi, arriving the geothermal town of Hveragerđi, known for the green house culture - top at Eden, one of their greenhouses and souvenir shop. We continue to the picturesque Keriđ, a lake-filled extinct volcanic crater. Onwards we will explore the other worldly hot spring area of Geysir - multicoloured pools of water and mud. Strokkur, the Great Geysir's little brother, is spouting to a height of about 25 metres and erupts at about 5-7 minute intervals. After lunch (included) we drive to the mighty Gullfoss (the Golden Waterfall), perhaps the most beautiful in the country. We walk around Gullfoss Falls, where the river Hvitá tumbles 32 meters in a double cascade. When the sun is shining, you're likely to see a rainbow through the massive spray that forms. On the way back to Reykjavik we stop at Skálholt, the site of an ancient bishopric, and for centuries Iceland's main cultural centre. Early evening transfer from accommodation to Perlan restaurant where you will have festive dinner buffet. After dinner the clients will be picked up by our guides for the evening tour we call "BRENNA BRENNA" that is driving to watch bonfires which are situated all over the city. That tour takes approx. 1,5 hrs. After the tour we go back to Perlan where we celebrate the New Year by watching the fireworks and dancing. At midnight Sparkling wine will be served. Transfer back to accommodation around 2 o'clock in the night (transfers start at 00.30 for those that want to go home early). January 1: Reykjavik, Bessastađir & Blue Lagoon Weaving our ways through narrow alleys framed with old timber houses, we learn about the life of the city from its very beginning to the present day. We pass the harbour, the University, Hallgrimskirkja-Church and a photo stop will be offered at Höfđi house, where the Reagan/Gorbachev summit meeting took place in 1986. Then on to Bessastađir - the official residence of the President of Iceland - and visit the church built in 1777 with its beautiful stained glass windows. Then around the picturesque town of Hafnarfjörđur and on to the Blue Lagoon. We put our swimsuits on and go bathing in the Blue Lagoon, a natural geothermal pool in the middle of a large and dramatic lava field. The Blue Lagoon, an oasis in the lava owes its existence to a nearby geothermal power plant, looming large over the aqua tinted waters. We stop for 1 hour for a refreshing bathe or a swim in the pleasantly warm mineral-rich water, reputed for its healing properties. In the evening is a 3 course dinner at Grand Hotel. January 2: Farwelle Return transfer to Keflavík airport in good time for you flight back home (unescorted). |
