| The natural beauty of Myvatn
and surroundings is unique and has been
sculpted by volcanic eruptions throughout
the ages. Lake Myvatn is one of the largest
in Iceland, 36.6 km2 and renowned for
wildlife. The magic and mystery of the northern
lights are legendary! Throughout history
they have been revered and associated with
supernatural powers. They are one of
nature's finest sights, and during the
winter nights may be seen beautifully in the
Icelandic skies.
Day 1: Arrive in Keflavik and transfer via the Flybus to the Reykjavik Domestic Airport for your flight to Akureyri. Depending on your flight time, you may have time to explore Iceland's capital city before flying north for 45 minutes to Akureyri, the largest town in north Iceland. You will be met at the airport and transferred to Mývatn by car. Here you will check into the Sel-Hotel Mývatn where dinner is served. Afterwards, you are invited to take an evening stroll around the area in anticipation of catching sight of the Northern Lights. Day 2: A guided sightseeing tour of the Mývatn area takes you to such places as "Dimmuborgir" (lava fields), "Höfði" (a community park), the bubbling mud pools at "Hveraleira", the geothermal power station and the crater "Víti" at Krafla. On concluding your evening meal, a 3-hour tour will take you in search of the magical Northern Lights. Day 3: Today is free to simply enjoy a relaxing day in the beauty of Mývatn or join an action packed super jeep excursion. In the evening there is a choice between a visit to the Nature Bath for a soothing soak or venturing out once again in search of the Northern Lights. Day 4: After breakfast you will be driven to Akureyri with a brief stop en route at Goðafoss waterfall. You will be given a short tour of the town of Akureyri, before being taken to the airport for the return flight to Reykjavík. Upon arrival in the capital, you will transfer on your own to your accommodation. Your evening is free to enjoy a meal at one of Reykjavik's fabulous restaurant and take in the pure energy of the nightlife. Day 5: Join the full-day excursion to the Golden Circle and explore the hot spots of Iceland; Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir Hot spring area. An upgrade to the Super Jeep Excursion with snowmobiling is available. Day 6: After breakfast a transfer will take you to the Blue Lagoon for several hours of relaxation before your onwards transfer to the airport and your flight to North America.
