Stykkishólmur
is the largest town on the Snæfellsnes
peninsula. Fishing is the main occupation,
but it is also an important trading centre.
Stykkishólmur is surrounded by a very
picturesque landscape and islands. The
Hostel is in one of the oldest houses in the
town and has been completely renovated. On
the Hostels own boat you can visit an ornithologist's
paradise, something never to be forgotten.
You will see Cormorants diving, Puffins
burrowing and Kittiwakes nesting on their
basalt cliff haven. You will explore the
island of Purkey, once a thriving sheep
farming community but sadly, a thing of the
past. Fishing? No problem. You can drop your
line over the side and presto! fish ready
for barbequing back on the Hostel's
patio.
