HI
Iceland is a non-profit membership organization
established in 1939. The organization is a member of
Hostelling International, a worldwide network of over
4000 hostels in 80 countries with app. 35 million
overnights a year worldwide. Membership
means that the Icelandic hostels fulfill the international
standard for HI hostels.
Since
its inception the organization's main goal has been to
promote and encourage travel with people of all ages,
increasing their knowledge and appreciation of nature
and culture.

Akureyri
The Hostel in Akureyri is situated in
the centre of the city, by the main road
"Hörgárbraut". Akureyri, the
capital of the north with 17,000
inhabitants, offers many interesting and
enjoyable sights and activities for the
visitors. Near the Hostel you find all the
service a city has to offer. Assistance is
provided for handicapped people. In Akureyri
you can take a lot of guided day tours and
longer tours, for example to Mývatn,
Dettifoss, Eyjafjörður, Skagafjörður, Hrísey,
Grímsey and Ólafsfjörður. There are
daily tours to Greenland from Akureyri
during the summer. Akureyri Hostel also
offers two new summerhouses which can
accommodate 7 persons each.

Fellshlíð The
Hostel in Fellshlíð is situated in Eyjarfjörður
25 km from Akureyri. It is ideal for those
who want to enjoy the peace of the country
in a comfortable and homely environment.
Fellshlíð has an active farm live with
cows, sheep and horses. Guests should note
that the next store is 25 km away and there
is no breakfast available at Fellshlíð.
There are various activities
for people to do in Eyjafjarðarsveit. There
are museums, trout fishing, a swimming pool
and a golf course. Its location, which is
close to the main road, offers many
possibilities for various walking tours and
other outdoor activities and the scenery is
magnificent towards all directions.

Kópasker
Kópasker
is a small village in the north-east part of
Iceland. Its economy is built around services for the
surrounding sheep farms. The Hostel is located in the centre of the
town with all necessary services close by. App.
33 km from Kópasker is Ásbyrgi which is
part of the National Park Jökulsárgljúfur.
In the National Park are many interesting
places like Hljóðaklettur and Forvöð.
Dettifoss is the most powerful waterfall in
Europe, but there are also smaller
waterfalls in Jökulsá, like Hafragilsfoss
& Vígabergsfoss. Many species of birds
are found in Melrakkaslétta. Rauðinúpur (30 km
away) is an
ideal place for bird watchers. Best time of
the year to observe the birds are in May and
September/October. At Snartastaðir there is
a very good folk museum.

Ósar Ósar
is located on the Vatnsnes Peninsula, 25 km
north of road no.1. Over the last three
years the hostel has been completely
renovated. An unusually beautiful sunset
gives the Hostel its name. Ósar ocean beach
is full of life. Seals abound and also eider
ducks and other birds, and the rock Hvítserkur,
which resembles a prehistoric Dinosaur, is
within walking distance from the Hostel. The
unspoiled nature, peaceful environment and a
variety of recreation opportunities makes Ósar
an ideal stop in an Iceland tour. In only
about 5 min walk you are in unusually close
contact with nature. Here guests can see a
number of different birds and one of Iceland's
biggest colonies of seals, swimming only a
few meters from the beach.

Sæberg
Halfway
between Reykjavík and Akureyri, you will
find Sæberg Hostel located just 1 km. off
highway no. 1 in Hrútafjörður. Set in a
renovated farmhouse it is ideal for those
looking for a peaceful countryside setting
to reload the batteries. Guests can also
find interesting walking paths along the
shore and up to the moor, and watch the wild
bird life, such as Eider and Puffin as well
as rare ones such as the Great Northern
Diver. Close by the Hostel there is a local
historical museum whose popular exhibitions
uncover the daily life of past generations
in the area.

Ytra
Lón The unspoiled nature, many
different kinds of birds and the peaceful
environment makes Ytra Lón an ideal stop
for nature lovers and people who are seeking
a relaxed atmosphere in a family owned
Hostel, with an Icelandic - Dutch family.
While walking along the coast you see a
number of long left farmhouses, a big
variety of plants, thousands of Artic Sterns
and a close view of the Gannet, breeding
among other seabirds on the rocks. 20
meters from the Hostel runs the river Lónsá
where anglers can try trout fishing. Guests
have the opportunity to join in the work on the farm.
