A perennial favourite, this tour combines the
sophistication of Iceland with the
dramatic landscapes and lifestyles of the
eastern Greenlandic communities of
Kulusuk and Tasiilaq. This
independent tour allows you to choose from the
communities of Kulusuk or Tasiilaq, both rich
in culture and history! Kulusuk is a community of approximately 400 people. As the other settlements in Ammassalik, Kulusuk remains relatively immune to Western influence despite the regular influx of tourists, partly because the villagers follow a more traditional way of life and partly because visitors tend to only stay short-term. Kulusuk is the perfect introduction to the settlements of the Ammassalik area. Tasiilaq is a community of approximately 1800 people. Coming to the area Ammassalik and the town of Tasillaq, you will enter the very heart of East Greenland’s exceptional beauty, and one of the most unspoiled arctic areas in the world. The awesome landscape has no parallel in the entire arctic. A mosaic of steep, dramatic mountains, countless lakes, streams and rivers, waterfalls, glaciers and green valleys. Ammassalik radiates a purity, which has overwhelmed and fascinated visitors throughout time. This tour can also be booked as a side-trip from Iceland, enabling you to spend longer in Iceland before or after your visit to Greenland. Day 1: Following your arrival in Iceland, you will transfer to the Reykjavik Domestic Airport for the short flight to Kulusuk where accommodation is confirmed for three nights. If Tasiilaq is your community of choice, you will continue by helicopter from Kulusuk. Days 2 & 3: These remote communities are small and quiet, and a wonderful place to hike, wander and completely relax. Optional excursions detailed below are booked locally at the hotel. Day 4: Your return flight to Iceland will depart in the early afternoon and arrive in time for dinner in Reykjavik. Transfer on your own to your downtown accommodation for two nights, take in the pure energy of Reykjavik nightlife. Day 5: A full day tour to the famous Golden Circle, a trio of natural wonders! The geothermal area Geysir, is where you can see one or more geysers spout steaming water into the sky and view other bubbling and hissing hot springs. Nearby is the waterfall Gullfoss, considered by many visitors and Icelanders to be the island's most beautiful falls! The historic Thingvellir National Park is site of the ancient parliament. Day 6: Today's transfer to Keflavik Airport will include at stop at the Blue Lagoon. Enjoy a soak in the geothermal mineral waters and go home feeling relaxed and revitalized.
