Passport: All visitors to Iceland
require a passport valid for three months after
the duration of their intended stay in Iceland,
from their country of citizenship. Exceptions are
citizens of Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway.
Citizens of the following countries may enter
Iceland as tourists for up to 3 months using
identity cards issued by the competent authorities
in the country of origin: Austria, Belgium,
France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg,
the Netherlands and Switzerland.
Visas: Nationals of the following
countries do not require visas to travel to
Iceland as visitors, although they do require
passports that are valid for three months beyond
their intended stay: Andorra, Argentina,
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil,
Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica,
Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, El
Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany,
Greece, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong (applicable
for those holding HKSAR passports), Hungary,
Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia,
Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macao
(applicable for those holding MSAR passports),
Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New
Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay,
Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Singapore,
Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland, Great Britain (incl. Bermuda, Turks
and Caicos Islands, Cayman Islands, Anguilla,
Montserrat, British Virgin Islands, St. Helena,
Falkland Islands and Gibraltar), United States of
America, Uruguay, Vatican and Venezuela. For stays
longer than three months, a visa is required.
Vaccinations: No vaccinations are
required.
Currency: Icelandic currency is the
Króna
(ISK). Some shops will accept payment in foreign
currency, and most banks will advance cash to a
credit card or debit card as well as exchange foreign
bank notes and cash traveler's cheques. ATM's can
be found all over the country, generally inside
banks and shopping centres. Visa and Mastercard
are accepted almost everywhere. Exchange rates

Shopping: Prices for goods are generally
high in Iceland, although Icelandic shops are
known for having sales and excellent special
offers. Shops in Iceland are of international
standard, and carry a wide variety of merchandise.
Local specialties are high quality woolen
knitwear, hand-made ceramics, glassware and silver
jewellery.
Tipping: It has become customary to tip
tour guides, drivers and also at hotels and
restaurants in recent years. Service and VAT
(Value Added Tax) are included in prices in
Iceland.
Time Zone: Iceland is on Greenwich Mean
Time (GMT) and does not go on daylight saving

Holidays: Banks and businesses and many
shops are closed on the following days:

Post Office: Post offices are located in
all major communities in Iceland. General hours
are Monday to Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM (this may
vary).
Electric Current: The electric current
in Iceland is 220 volts, 50Hz AC. Sockets take
two-pronged plugs. An electricity and plug
converter is recommended.
